At Ubuntu Clinic, we believe that a community clinic should be accountable to the community it serves. We are committed to the highest degree of financial transparency. We openly share our budget, expenses, and fundraising goals so that our community can see exactly how resources are used. This transparency is part of our commitment to practicing Ubuntu — recognizing that this clinic is not just mine, but ours. By making financial information public, we honor the trust placed in us and affirm that the community has the right to know how funds are stewarded to sustain a people’s clinic.
Ubuntu Clinic offers low-barrier access to high-quality medical care. We accept Medi-Cal insurance and are happy to help patients enroll if they qualify. However, no one is ever turned away or denied same-day medical care because of inability to pay.
When patients cannot pay, the cost of medical supplies, laboratory tests, and vaccines is covered through:
1. Clinic revenue
2. Donations from our supporters through our Open Collective fundraiser
Ubuntu Clinic uses the Anti-Oppressive Rate Structure developed by Kenya Crawford for patients who are able to contribute toward their care. This sliding-scale fee model considers factors such as historical and financial privilege to help patients determine which rate is right for them. You can view our sliding scale model here.
